Is 2/3 greater than 9/1?
To compare two fractions, such as 2/3 and 9/1, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 2 × 1 = 2
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 9 × 3 = 27
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 3 × 1 = 3
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 2/3 = 2/3
- 9/1 = 27/3
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 2 is smaller than 27, we can conclude that 2/3 is less than 9/1.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 2 divided by 3 is equal to 0.66666666666667
- 9 divided by 1 is equal to 9
Since 0.66666666666667 is smaller than 9, it means that 2/3 is less than 9/1.
