Is 3/6 greater than 9/10?
To compare two fractions, such as 3/6 and 9/10, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 3 × 10 = 30
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 9 × 6 = 54
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 6 × 10 = 60
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 3/6 = 30/60
- 9/10 = 54/60
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 30 is smaller than 54, we can conclude that 3/6 is less than 9/10.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 3 divided by 6 is equal to 0.5
- 9 divided by 10 is equal to 0.9
Since 0.5 is smaller than 0.9, it means that 3/6 is less than 9/10.
