Is 4/3 greater than 10/6?
To compare two fractions, such as 4/3 and 10/6, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 4 × 6 = 24
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 10 × 3 = 30
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 3 × 6 = 18
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 4/3 = 24/18
- 10/6 = 30/18
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 24 is smaller than 30, we can conclude that 4/3 is less than 10/6.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 4 divided by 3 is equal to 1.3333333333333
- 10 divided by 6 is equal to 1.6666666666667
Since 1.3333333333333 is smaller than 1.6666666666667, it means that 4/3 is less than 10/6.
