Is 4/9 greater than 10/10?
To compare two fractions, such as 4/9 and 10/10, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 4 × 10 = 40
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 10 × 9 = 90
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 9 × 10 = 90
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 4/9 = 40/90
- 10/10 = 90/90
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 40 is smaller than 90, we can conclude that 4/9 is less than 10/10.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 4 divided by 9 is equal to 0.44444444444444
- 10 divided by 10 is equal to 1
Since 0.44444444444444 is smaller than 1, it means that 4/9 is less than 10/10.
