Is 6/3 greater than 10/2?
To compare two fractions, such as 6/3 and 10/2, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 6 × 2 = 12
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 10 × 3 = 30
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 3 × 2 = 6
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 6/3 = 12/6
- 10/2 = 30/6
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 12 is smaller than 30, we can conclude that 6/3 is less than 10/2.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 6 divided by 3 is equal to 2
- 10 divided by 2 is equal to 5
Since 2 is smaller than 5, it means that 6/3 is less than 10/2.
