Is 6/4 greater than 2/10?
To compare two fractions, such as 6/4 and 2/10, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 6 × 10 = 60
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 2 × 4 = 8
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 4 × 10 = 40
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 6/4 = 60/40
- 2/10 = 8/40
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 60 is larger than 8, we can conclude that 6/4 is greater than 2/10.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 6 divided by 4 is equal to 1.5
- 2 divided by 10 is equal to 0.2
Since 1.5 is larger than 0.2, it means that 6/4 is greater than 2/10.
