Is 7/7 greater than 2/8?
To compare two fractions, such as 7/7 and 2/8, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 7 × 8 = 56
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 2 × 7 = 14
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 7 × 8 = 56
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 7/7 = 56/56
- 2/8 = 14/56
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 56 is larger than 14, we can conclude that 7/7 is greater than 2/8.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 7 divided by 7 is equal to 1
- 2 divided by 8 is equal to 0.25
Since 1 is larger than 0.25, it means that 7/7 is greater than 2/8.
