Is 8/4 greater than 9/6?
To compare two fractions, such as 8/4 and 9/6, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 8 × 6 = 48
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 9 × 4 = 36
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 4 × 6 = 24
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 8/4 = 48/24
- 9/6 = 36/24
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 48 is larger than 36, we can conclude that 8/4 is greater than 9/6.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 8 divided by 4 is equal to 2
- 9 divided by 6 is equal to 1.5
Since 2 is larger than 1.5, it means that 8/4 is greater than 9/6.
