Is 9/10 greater than 2/3?
To compare two fractions, such as 9/10 and 2/3, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 9 × 3 = 27
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 2 × 10 = 20
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 10 × 3 = 30
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 9/10 = 27/30
- 2/3 = 20/30
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 27 is larger than 20, we can conclude that 9/10 is greater than 2/3.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 9 divided by 10 is equal to 0.9
- 2 divided by 3 is equal to 0.66666666666667
Since 0.9 is larger than 0.66666666666667, it means that 9/10 is greater than 2/3.
