Is 9/3 greater than 2/10?
To compare two fractions, such as 9/3 and 2/10, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 9 × 10 = 90
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 2 × 3 = 6
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 3 × 10 = 30
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 9/3 = 90/30
- 2/10 = 6/30
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 90 is larger than 6, we can conclude that 9/3 is greater than 2/10.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 9 divided by 3 is equal to 3
- 2 divided by 10 is equal to 0.2
Since 3 is larger than 0.2, it means that 9/3 is greater than 2/10.
