Is 9/9 greater than 4/5?
To compare two fractions, such as 9/9 and 4/5, there are two main common methods: the first one involves finding a common denominator, and the other one is to convert the fractions directly into decimal values.
1) Using the same denominator
- Multiply the numerator of the first fraction with the denominator of the second fraction: 9 × 5 = 45
- Multiply the numerator of the second fraction with the denominator of the first fraction 4 × 9 = 36
- Multiply the denominators of both fractions together: 9 × 5 = 45
- Rewrite both fractions with the new common denominator:
- 9/9 = 45/45
- 4/5 = 36/45
With a common denominator, the comparison becomes much simpler.
Since 45 is larger than 36, we can conclude that 9/9 is greater than 4/5.
2) Converting to decimal
We can also simply convert the fractions into decimal values:
- 9 divided by 9 is equal to 1
- 4 divided by 5 is equal to 0.8
Since 1 is larger than 0.8, it means that 9/9 is greater than 4/5.
